Obituary

Major Lawrence R. Moretz Sr., 81, of Asbury Park, died Monday at home. He attended The Salvation Army School for Officer Training and was commissioned an officer in 1952. He served the Salvation Army as a commanding officer for 25 years in the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division. His appointments included Plymouth, Sunbury, Scranton, Lancaster, and Chambersburg. He retired in 1978. He was a World War II Navy veteran. he was a member of The Salvation Army Retired Officers League. Born in Newport, Pa., he lived in Asbury Park since his retirement.

His wife, Evelyn, died in 1981. Surviving are a son, Commissioner Lawrence R. Moretz Jr. of Chicago; a daughter, Brenda Kissinger of Deltona, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until his funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Route 33, Neptune. Interment will follow in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
