Obituary

Major Mrs. Wilhelmina Guldenschuh, 100, of Wall, died peacefully on Saturday, March 12, at her home in Waterford Glen. She was born in Utrecht, Holland and emigrated to the U.S. when she was 10 years old. She was raised in Buffalo, N.Y., and in 1925 she was commissioned an officer in The Salvation Army. She and her husband Walter served in Binghamton, Elmira, and Rochester, N.Y., Newark and Paterson, N.J., Altoona, Pa. and then at Territorial Headquarters in Nyack, N.Y. in the Property Department. Wilhelmina retired from active service in 1972 when her husband predeceased her. She was a resident of the Retired Officers Residence, Asbury Park, from 1974 until her move to Waterford Glen.

Surviving are by her son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Joan Guldenschuh; two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and George Payton and Yvonne and Frank Payton, all of Ithaca, N.Y. She was a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Gayle Payton Walls, Joy Payton Roe, George, John, and Greg Payton, Linda Payton, Mark Payton, Debi Payton Oldendorf, Karen Payton Hurula, and Viki Payton; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Clark Berkhoudt of Ohio; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Berkhoudt of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until her funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Route 33, Neptune. Interment will follow in Kenscico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
