Obituary
Raymond Eugene Pigford, “Gene,” 76, of Unadilla, passed away at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, on June 6, 2021.
Gene was born in Jamaica, New York, on June 26, 1944, to the late Euanna and Raymond Pigford.
He attended Massapequa High School and Houghton College.
He was married to Edith Pigford on Dec. 27, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Gene was active in the Salvation Army as an officer for more than 40 years. He also served as town supervisor for the town of Sidney for almost eight years. Gene was a member of Fagan's Flyers and the Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Pigford; three children and their spouses, Daniel and Gail Pigford, Bryan and Jennifer Hutchinson, and Susan and Mark Kasprzak; six grandchildren, Amanda (Josiah), Jonathan (Catherine), Rachel, Joshua (Emily), Sarah and Abby; three great-grandchildren, Justine, Jayce and Isaac; and many extended family members and friends. Gene is also survived by a sister, Euanna Pigford of Schroon Lake.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney.
Graveside services will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 10, in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gene Pigford's name to The Salvation Army, Oneonta, Catherine Booth Bible College, Winnipeg, Manitoba, or Town of Sidney United Way.
