Edythe Marshall Breithaupt

Obituary

Edythe Gene Breithaupt, age 95 of Delaware, Ohio passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Willow Brook at Delaware Run.

She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 5, 1928, to the late Norman S. and Marjorie (Miles) Marshall. Edythe was raised in New York City and graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where she met her husband Warren S. Breithaupt. They were married in 1949 and shared 68 wonderful years. They lived in Chicago, Ill, Ann Arbor, MI, Canton, OH, Sewickley, PA, Saginaw, MI and Palm Harbor, FL before moving to Delaware in 2010. Sadly, Warren passed away in 2017.

Edythe's life centered on caring for the needs of her family. While raising her family she volunteered for Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood. She sat through years of YMCA and high school swim meets. In later life she and Warren delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

Edythe had a passion for athletics. She played field hockey in college and was an avid paddleball and tennis player. She played paddleball at the Saginaw YMCA as a pioneer woman. In adult tennis she was rated 4.5.

Edythe loved travel. She and Warren took family camping trips to 45 of 50 states and many national parks and monuments with all five of their children. In retirement she and Warren traveled internationally to many countries. Edie loved flowers and always had a flower garden. She loved playing bridge with friends and had a passion for Scrabble.

She was very independent. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren, and will be remembered for her love of family and tennis.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters Katherine (David) Klug of Marysville and Jean (James) Wright of Cadillac, Michigan; sons Steven (Suzanne) Breithaupt of Cadillac, Michigan, Mark (Ann) Breithaupt of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and David (Anne) Breithaupt of Mattawan, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edyth was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
