Obituary
Lt. Col. Arthur Bamford, 97, of Wall, was promoted to glory Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Waterford Glen, Wall. He was born in Stockport, England, and immigrated to the U.S. with his family shortly thereafter. Arthur, a third generation Salvationist, was commissioned as a cadet sergeant in 1930. He held many positions from Assistant Corps Officer to Divisional Commander for Northern New England, Northern New Jersey and Western New York before retiring in 1973. He was a devoted father, who was a Christian example in his own home.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Lt. Col. Eleanor Bamford. He is survived by his sons, Lt. Col. William A. Bamford of Bradenton, Fla., Donald J. Bamford of Red Hook, N.Y., and W. Dean Bamford of Burlington, Mass.; 12 grandchildren, including Southern New England Divisional Commander Major William A. Bamford III; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Friends and family are invited to call from 9:30 o 10:15 a.m. Friday at the Ely Funeral Home, 3316, Highway 33, Neptune. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
