Obituary
Major Maria Olivia “Dee Dee” Edeen Williams, 79, of Macedonia, OH and formerly of Erie, was promoted to glory on Thursday December 1, 2016 at University Hospital Ahuja Medical Center. She was born in Erie on March 17, 1937 a daughter of the late Einar M. and Karin Gustafsson Edeen.
Dee Dee was a 1955 graduate of McDowell High School and went on to attend Gannon University. She worked for G.E. before attending the Salvation Army School for Officers Training. She also received her Advanced Ministry Training from the Theological Seminary at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY before working with the Salvation Army as an Ordained Minister for many years. She was the Salvation Army Representative for the VA Administration and was a member of V.I.S.A. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, playing the guitar and piano, and singing.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Major Charles Williams, with whom she celebrated their anniversary on November 30; one son, Matthew C. “Bones” Williams of Erie; one daughter, Kristi Ruth East and her husband, Darryl, of Twinsburg, OH; her sister, Lt. Colonel Ruth Avery and her husband, Lt. Colonel Al Avery, of Lancaster, PA; two sisters in law, Lt. Colonel Gladys DeMichael and her husband, Lt. Colonel Joseph DeMichael, of Clearwater, FL and Claire Richmyer of Lima, OH; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. including a prayer service there at 8:30 p.m.. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Temple Corps, 1022 Liberty St.. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
