Obituary

James Allan Amick, 73, of Dalzell, IL passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 7, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, Diana (nee Schultz), children, Garrett Amick, Chanin (John) Ladson, Jaycie (Rich) Tallon, Kristy (David) Riggs, grandchildren, Andrew White, Belle Ladson, Nathan Tallon, Delia Amick, Kaydi Tallon, Eli and Alle Riggs, sister Debbie (Roland) McCluer, brother, Sam (Chris) Amick and sister-in-law, Sharon Amick. He is preceded in death by his parents David Amick Sr. and Flossie Amick, and brother David Amick, Jr.

Jim was born February 23, 1949, in Independence, Kansas. He married Diana Lee Schultz on January 31, 1969, in Chicago, IL. Jim served in the Air Force from 1969 to 1973 as a Chaplain Assistant at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant awarded with the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. Jim and Diana graduated from The Salvation Army Training College and were commissioned in 1975 as Salvation Army officers and actively served together until they retired as Majors in 2013. In the 53 years they shared their lives, they built a family founded in faith and joined in love. Jim enjoyed singing and playing the piano and guitar. In his later years, he enjoyed recording songs on CDs and handing them out to everyone to spread the joy of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and as tributes to his parents, and brother.

Also, he spent time finding unique things at antique stores and garage sales, finding those clearance aisles at the stores, collecting baseball cards, autographed sports and celebrity memorabilia, conquering skee-ball, cranes, building beautiful things out of wood and watching westerns. Jim could often be found enjoying nature, especially during a good rainstorm. He loved to joke around, play pool with his friends, make people laugh and help anyone–to him, no one was a stranger, he had the most giving and loving heart. Jim loved to hand out teddy bears and stuffed animals just to see smiles on people's faces. While he loved all these things his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his dogs.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan. Funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 P.M. also at the funeral home. Interment with full military funeral honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. In lieu of flowers, donations to Jim's family to be used for a memorial tree to be planted would be most appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St. Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, ww.forsythegouldfh.com
