Poetry

Commissioner Roberts wrote some original poetry throughout the years.

Time

Time moves on
And I, in desperation,
Try to hold it back
But fail in trying,
Relentlessly the clock ticks off
Each minute and no mercy shows
And Time moves on.

Time moves on,
I have not nearly finished
All I have begun.
I cling as though with vise-like grip
To NOW, TODAY, THE PRESENT TIME.
There's so much more I want to do
Before the Master says I'm through.
“Slow down” I cry–
But Time moves on.

Dear God you know my love of life
And loved ones.
But my days are in Your hands.
And though I'll never fully understand
My trust is firm in Thee.
And as the days go quickly by
I'll live them, Lord, for Thee,
As Time moves on.

Thank You, Lord

Thank you, Lord,
For autumn gold,
For summer sun,
For winter cold,

For wakening life
At each new spring,
For winds that blow,
For birds that sing,

For morning light
Of every day,
For each new joy
That comes our way;

For strength to earn
Our daily bread,
For place to lay a weary head,

For faith to trust
When dark the road,
For one who knows and shares the load;

For friends who care
And lend a hand
To lead us from the sinking sand.

Once more our gratitude we bring
And Thank you, Lord!
For everything!
