Edward Anderson

Edward Wallace Anderson (April 13, 1931 - September 16, 2015) was a child of Senior Majors Elof and Gladys Anderson.

Obituary

Edward W. “The Bald-Headed Swede” Anderson, age 84 of West Olive was “Promoted to Glory” on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at home. Ed was born April 13, 1931 to Swan Elof and Gladys (Eckness) Anderson in Hibbing, MN. He married Rosella Owens on August 23, 1952 in Muskegon. Ed proudly served his country as a combat veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was a sales agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 25 years and was the planned giving director for the Salvation Army for 5 years. Ed was a member of Grand Haven Salvation Army, former band master, choir director, Sunday school teacher, Corp counsel and was a guest conductor for the Chicago Salvation Army Staff Band. He was a gifted musician and volunteered his musical talents each summer to teach beginning musicians the love of music. As a trumpet player, Ed was often seen playing “Taps” at local cemeteries on Veteran's Day and other military events. In 2014, Ed was invited to play taps at the Sky Ball Wounded Warrior Benefit in Dallas, TX with his daughter Nanci for 5,000 wonded vets. Ed was a master gardener and loved to play golf. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 63 years, Rose; daughters, Claudia Kerr Bryant and her husband Dana of Norton Shores, MI, Lt. Col. Vicki (Lt. Col. Richard) Amick of Chicago, IL., Nanci (Scott) Yager of Dallas, TX; sons, Edward (Diane) Anderson of West Olive, MI, Lars Anderson of West Olive, MI; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma (Charles) Pieffer of Grand Ledge, MI, Kelly (James) Viane of Boyton Beach, FL, GiGi (Kenneth) Wyatt of Concord, MI; brother, Major Eugene (Joyce) Anderson of Diamondale, MI; several nieces and nephews. The celebration of life for Ed will take place at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Major Eugene Anderson, Capt. Jay Davis and Dr. Glenn Wagner officiating. Full military rites will be performed by the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28. Friends and relatives may meet the family 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Contributions in memory of Edward may be made the The Grand Haven Salvation Army Brass Band Fund.
