Obituary
Damon Walter Bethel was born on December 9, 1970 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the second oldest child of Majors Walter & Alvina Mae Bethel.
Damon received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of six. At a young age, through his parents’ example, he learned the importance of serving God and helping people. That is something he would carry with him throughout his life.
Damon graduated from Roxborough High School (Philadelphia, PA) in 1989 and accepted a football scholarship to the University of Miami. In the Spring of 1991, he pledged the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, joining a brotherhood that would last his lifetime. Damon earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1994 and became a Special Education Teacher.
In 2008, Damon recommitted his life to the Lord and answered the call the Lord had put on his life as a child to become a Salvation Army Officer. He was accepted into the College for Officer Training in 2012 as a member of the Disciples of the Cross Session. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in June 2014 and soon after married Allison Cornish. Together they ministered as Corps Commanding Officers at the Hartford North End Corps (2014-2017) and at the Buffalo Kensington Corps (2017-2021). In July of 2019 Damon completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ministry Management from Asbury University.
Damon’s greatest joy was realized with the birth of his son, Damon W. Bethel, Jr. born on May 8, 2020.
Damon was Promoted to Glory on Monday, February 22, 2021. Damon was known for his passionate enthusiasm and his infectious smile. He loved the Lord, he loved his family, and he loved serving others. He will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife Allison C. Bethel and his son Damon Walter Bethel, Jr.; his parents Walter and Alvina Mae Bethel; his sister Dorcas Bethel; his brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Sarah Bethel; his brother and sister-in-law David and Cindy Bethel; and many nieces and nephews.
Damon is now in glory rejoicing with His Savior!
