Obituary
Major Charles H. Coles, Sr., 85, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his home in Beach Haven West, Manahawkin, NJ. Major Coles was born January 6, 1932, in Mount Carmel, Pa. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte K., parents, W. Robert I and Verna Mae, his brother, Robert Nelson, Sr., and sister, Emily Mae Foreman.
Charles and Charlotte were married August 2, 1951, jointly commissioned in the Salvation Army in June 1955 and served faithfully together in the Salvation Army as Majors until 1994 when they retired in Manahawkin.
Major Coles was a Rotarian and a Mason. In retirement Coles was elected to three terms on the Southern Ocean County School Board.
Coles is survived by his son Dr. Charles H., Jr. (Marilyn, PA), daughter Kathleen C Evans (H. Mark, PA) daughter Debra L. Halter (Michael, SC), daughter Diana L. Fitz (Samuel, NY), son W. Robert II (Lori, SC), 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and brother, Dr. William Russell, (PA).
Family and friends will be received from 8:00 am to 9:30 am Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Salvation Army, Toms River Corps, 1738 Route 37 East. Toms River, NJ 08753. A memorial service will follow at 9:30 am. Interment will occur in Schuylkill Haven, PA.
