Obituary

Lt. Col. Eleanor Bamford, 93, of Asbury Park, died Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She graduated with the “Centennial” Session of The Salvation Army Training College in New York in June, 1929. She served The Salvation Army with her husband, Lt. Col. W. Arthur Bamford (R), at appointments in Frankfort, Ky, and Altoona, Lock Haven and Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and divisional headquarters appointments in New England, Southeast Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. During her career, she served as Divisional Home League Secretary in Northern New England and Director of Women's Services in Northern New England, New Jersey and Western New York. She served as Territorial League of Mercy Secretary in 1971 and Territorial Home League Secretary in 1972. Born in Paterson, she moved to Asbury Park after her retirement in 1973.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years and 11 months, Lt. Col. W. Arthur Bamford; three sons, Lt. Col. William A. of Parrish, Fla., Donald J. of Red Hook, N.Y., and Warren D. of Burlington, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Salvation Army, 510 Grand Ave., Asbury Park.
