Mrs. Edith A. Baker, 61, of 1409 Sassafras St., died at 3:37 am today in Franklin Hospital, where she'd been since Nov. 11, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was born in Franklin March 19, 1909, daughter of James and Nettie Dunn Connell.
She was an active member of Salvation Army and served as Home League Secretary for 12 years, and was a Sunday School teacher there. She was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary and a member of the Women of the Moose.
On April 4, 1925, in Franklin she married Lester L. Baker, who survives, with children, Mrs. Frank J. (Elnora) Baker of Franklin RD 1, Mrs. Calvin (Martha) Greathouse of Franklin, Mrs. Charles E. (Ruth) Hawkins of Polk RD 2, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Harried of Polk RD 2, Mrs. Reed (Mary) Stright of Franklin RD 1, Mrs. William (Edith) Beach of Oil City, Capt. Lester L. Baker Jr. of Oil City, and Cadet James C. Baker of New York City; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchilren; two brothers, James V. Connell of Franklin, and Charles E. Connell of Ft. Pierce, FL; and a sister, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Nesselhauf of Franklin. Deceased are a brother, Joseph Connell, and a sister, Mrs. Marybelle Scott.
Services will be at 2 pm Sunday at Leverne L. Burger Funeral Home with Maj. Mervin Sedler of Homestead, formerly of Franklin, officiating. Burial will be in Graham Cemetery.
