Colonel **Sydney Charles Maidment** was commissioned in 1887. He died in the sinking of the [[Empress of Ireland]].

In 1890, Captain Maidment  was stationed in Copenhagen, Denmark. He had an appointment in Amsterdam, and Cape Town, South Africa. In 1911 and 1912 he spent some time in Kingston, Jamaica.
