Mr. James A. Longino Salvation Army Official
Mr. James A. Longino of Gainesville, a retired Salvation Army official, died from complications of a stroke Tuesday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 84.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the Salvation Army Temple in Atlanta with burial at Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Longino, a former Atlantan, was Salvation Army chief secretary in charge of 13 Southern states and Mexico. He retired in 1972 after 23 years of service. Earlier he had been divisional commander in Washington, D.C., and later held that post in Richmond, where he was in charge of operations for Virginia and West Virginia.
James Absalom Longino was born Jan. 16, 1907, in LaGrange, Ga., the son of Ansel S. Longino. He graduated from Boys High School in Atlanta and Salvation Army Training College in New York.
Surviving are his wife, Monica Farrar Longino; a son, James A. Longino Jr. of Mobile, Ala; two daughters, M. Jean Hiler of Blairsville, Ga., and Joan C. McMillan of Social Circle, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
