Obituary
Retired Salvationist Gladys M. Damon Rader, 87, a former resident of Ocean Grove, died Tuesday at home.
She was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Salvation Army, serving from 1922 to 1967. She graduated from the Salvation Army School for Officer Training, Blood and Fire Session, New York, in 1921.
She served in New York State, Philadelphia, and various parts of New Jersey. She and her husband were Southwest Ohio divisional youth leaders in 1953, and from 1953 until retirement, she and her husband were the Salvation Army Eastern Territorial Revivalists, traveling from Ohio to New England.
She was a member of the Asbury Park Corps of the Salvation Army, and the Salvation Army Retired Officers League, Asbury Park.
Mrs. Rader was born in Chicago and lived in Ocean Grove for 20 years before moving to Floral Park two years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Salvation Army Lt. Col. Lyell M.; four sons, all Salvation officers, Major Damon L., Bloomfield; Col. Paul A., New York; Major Herbert C. M.D., with whom she lived, and Maj. Lyell M. Jr., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; a daughter, Jeanne E. Gabrielsen, Greenfield, Ind.; 21 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
