Obituary
Brig. Ethel M. Osborne, 91, of Lakewood, died Wednesday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She graduated from The Salvation Army School for Officer Training in New York and was commissioned as an officer in 1934. She served The Salvation Army at appointments in Johnstown, Tarentum, Clairton, Punxsutawney, New Kensington, Kane, and Monessen, all in Pennsylvania, between 1934 and 1947, when she was appointed to Territorial Headquarters, New York City. In 1969 she served as the private secretary to the national commander. She retired from active service in 1975. During her retirement, she continued working in the Officer Cases Bureau as the assistant director until 1979. She played the cornet and piano.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Emma Osborne; three brothers, her twin, Theodore J. Osborne, and Howard and Randolph Osborne. Surviving are two nieces and their husbands, Christine and Harry Pruden of Toms River, and Linnea and William Cairney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a nephew and his wife, John “Randy” and Millie Osborne of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandnieces and grandnephews; and five great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Route 33, Neptune. Her funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
