Salvation Army Honors Commandant At Rites
Full Salvation Army honors were given this afternoon at the funeral of Mrs. Commandant Charlotte Abrams, whose death on Monday morning caused a great loss to the Army's members. The services took place at the People's Palace Citadel, at Washington and East Brookline sts., this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Lieut. Col. Donald McMillan conducted the service. Interment was in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Commandant Abrams, a teacher in the public schools at San Jose, Calif, in May 30, 1894, met the Salvation Army and became converted. Two years later she became a member of the organization. She entered the Army Training College in July, 1897, in San Francisco to train for officership in the organization, after which she was appointed to be one of the pioneers in the Army's work in the Philippine Islands. She was married to Capt. Julius Abrams and for some time was stationed at Santa Rosa, Calif. Later Capt. Abrams was promoted to be a commandant.
In 1905 they were transferred to the New England Provincial headquarters in Boston where they gave continuous service up to the time of the commandant's death in 1931.
