Promoted To Glory
Mrs. Brigadier Marion E. Rudd-Wold (R) was recently promoted to Glory from a rest home in Torrance, Calif.
The second of seven children, she was born in 1911 to officer parents, Mary and William Smith, in Twin Falls, Ida.
Youth as a child of corps officers provided a solid foundation for her future officership ministry, which began with commissioning in 1930 as a member of the Climbers Session. Her unique first six years of ministry were at Skid Road corps in San Francisco and Seattle.
Marion met Cadet Wilbert Alfred Rudd in 1934 while on the Training College staff, and marriage followed in 1938. Together they shared in corps, divisional, and territorial appointments, where she found good use for her spiritual gifts of service and helping.
After widowhood of 13 years, Marion married Brigadier Ben Wold, and together they enjoyed ten years with family and friends. His three boys and their families brought joy to both of them.
For the last few years she has continued to put her resources to work as she supported her officer children in their various appointments. To perpetuate her special interest in overseas projects, an endowment fund has been established in her name.
Marion is survived by three children and their spouses: Lt. Colonel Sherryl Van Cleef, Colonel Carol Saunders, and Captain Robert Rudd; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Brigadier Oliver Yardley (R); Mrs. Dora Torgerson; and Mrs. Lois Anderson.
A Celebration of Life and Service was held at the Santa Monica Corps. Captain Robert Rudd led the service, with family members participating. Captain Clem Leslie spoke.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund in her name. Checks should be sent to The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters, P.O. Box 22646, Attn: Finance Dept., Long Beach CA 90802.
Messages of sympathy may be sent in care of Lt. Colonel Sherryl Van Cleef, 2801 Sepulveda Blvd. #43, Torrance CA 90505-2801.
