Major Donna M. Ginter, age 62, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Kenmore, N.Y. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert H. Ginter; two sons, Phillip Ginter (Wayne Leverknight) and Michael T. Ginter; sister-in-law, Corinda (Edward) Rogers; three nieces, Corinda (Darrick) Johnson, Rebecca (David) Reed and Amanda (Jeffery) Oakley; three great-nieces, Samantha, Grace and Katlyn; great-nephew, Logan; and several cousins. Major Ginter was born in Johnson City, N.Y. and was the daughter of Donald and Grace (Stonier) Kent. She attended Binghamton schools and was a graduate of Binghamton Central School. Major Ginter worked with the youth in Binghamton for 20 years, as a youth leader for the Binghamton Salvation Army. She had been a pastor for the past 17 years in Gloversville, Canandaigua and Buffalo Citadel. She was commissioned in 1995, obtaining the rank of major. Mrs. Ginter was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow from the Canandaigua Rotary Club. The Ginters recently moved from Canandaigua to Buffalo, after 10 years at the Canandaigua Salvation Army. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Canandaigua Salvation Army, 110 Saltonstall St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Shawsville Cemetery, Conklin, N.Y.
