====Mackneer Reassigned By Salvation Army====
Lt. Paul T. Mackneer will wind up three years in [[Chambersburg PA|Chambersburg]] as corps officer of the local Salvation Army this month with the feeling that he has planted much seed that will flourish through the efforts of his successor.

Mackneer and his wife, Susan, will be transferred to [[Shamokin PA|Shamokin]] Aug. 27, where they will assume the post of corps officers with that community's Salvation Army.
\\ \\
The Mackneers will be replaced in Chambersburg by Capt. and Mrs. George Polarek, who are expected to arrive here on Aug. 27.
\\ \\
Mackneer, who took over the post of corps officer here on June 10, 1977, has expanded both the church work and the social work of the local corps in the three years he has been here.
\\ \\
He is justly proud of his accomplishments, which include development of programs within the church as well as programs ministering to the needy of the community.
\\ \\
During Mackneer's tenure at the local corps, its clothing room has been expanded and community's transient aid program has been brought under the umbrella of the Salvation Army.
\\ \\
Last year alone the Salvation Army locally provided material assistance to 2,059 persons and processed 361 food orders for the needy.
\\ \\
Salvation Army personnel here also interviewed 219 transients, providing lodging to 129 and meals to 164. The organization also assisted 1,227 persons in obtaining clothing, distributing 12,879 pieces of clothing valued at well over $10,000.
\\ \\
In addition to the food and clothing program and for the area's needy and the transient service for travelers stranded in Chambersburg, the Salvation Army now sponsors local camping programs, has youth and character-building programs and music programs and aids the needy with Christmas baskets and gifts during the holiday season.
\\ \\
Mackneer also conducts regular religious programs and has a visitation program at area institutions.
\\ \\
Mackneer said he and his family have enjoyed the time they have spent in Chambersburg and have made many friends they will not forget.
\\ \\
"It was a new experience for us, but with patience and endurance in our work, we came to love the things we were doing and the people we worked with," he said.
\\ \\
The assignment to Chambersburg was the Mackneers' first as full-time officers in the Salvation Army, although they had worked as "soldiers" with the organization most of their lives.
\\ \\
Both Mackneers are from [[Lewistown PA|Lewistown]] and he had managed a diary store there for 20 years before feeling "the call of God" and deciding to go into full-time work with the Salvation Army.
\\ \\
Mackneer was about 35 at the time he felt this call and decided to go into training. He and Susan took their children, [[Mark Mackneer|Mark]] and [[Trudy Mackneer Medina|Trudy]], sold their home and moved to Suffern, N.Y., where the [[College for Officers Training - Eastern Territory|Salvation Army training school]] is located. The Mackneers have another daughter, Linda, who is married and living in Lewistown.

Mark, also married now, is at the training school in New York, and nine-year-old Trudy is still at home.
\\ \\
In spite of his many accomplishments at the Salvation Army here, Mackneer feels there is still much work to be done in Chambersburg and thinks he has planted the seed for at least part of that work.
\\ \\
"We are hesitant to leave our work here," he said this week, "but at the same time we feel that it is God's will to be used in other places."
\\ \\
The community will have an opportunity to bid the Mackneer family goodby at a farewell meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Salvation Army, 159 Lincoln Way West.

====Obituary====
Major Paul T. Mackneer, 81, of Lewistown, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Geisinger-Medical Center, Danville.
\\ \\
Born October 1, 1936, in Reedsville. He was a son to the late Louis Mackneer Sr. and Mary (Freed) Mackneer.
\\ \\
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Louis Jr., Rober, and Richard Mackneer; and a sister, Erma Stokes.
\\ \\
He is survived by: his wife, Susan (Haubrick) Mackneer, whom he married on Nov. 5, 1955, and shared 62 yrs. of marriage; children, Linda Folk and companion, Ken Wilson, of Lewistown, Major Mark Mackneer and wife, Susan, of Syracuse, N.Y., Major Trudy Medina and husband, Carlos, of Bloomfield, N.J.; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, William Mackneer and wife, Pat of Lewistown, Larry Mackneer and wife, Doris, of Cuba Mills; and many nieces and nephews.
\\ \\
Paul graduated from Lewistown High School, Class of 1955.
\\ \\
He served in the Salvation Army with his wife for 24 years, in Chambersburg, Shamokin, Levittown, Milton and Pottsville. He was gifted with an ear for music and played at the local Salvation Army for 17 years. He built a cabin at Poe Valley that was his pride and joy. He loved the family gatherings that were held there and loved to go hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed helping others and fixing things.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, with [[Leslie Walter|Major Leslie Walter]] and [[Duane Harris|Major Duane Harris]] officiating.

Interment will take place at Church Hill Cemetery.
\\ \\
