David D. Amick, Jr., 65, RR St. Augustine, was promoted to Glory at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Galesburg. \\ \\ He was born Aug. 8, 1946 in Hutchison, Kan., the son of David D. and Flossie Jean (Matthews) Amick, Sr. He married Sharon Lee Wall Aug. 10 1968 in Sterling. She survives. \\ \\ He is also survived by 11 sons, David D. (and Laura) Amick III, Jason (and Jeannette) Amick, Albert (and Eileen) Darisse, William (and Amy) Janis, James Amick, Shane (and Rose) Amick, Ronald (and Bridgette) Amick, Josh D. Amick, Josh P. Amick, Anthony Amick and Jeremy Amick; three daughters, Kim (and Rick) Ray, Brandi Reed and Katie Amick; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, James (and Diana) Amick and Sam (and Chris) Amick; one sister, Debra (and Roland) McCluer. \\ \\ He graduated from Kankakee High School in 1965 and from the Salvation Army officers training in 1968. he served as an officer in the Salvation Army for 15 years, was a counselor at the Adult Rehabilitation Center for the Salvation Army for six years and then served as the pastor of the Nazarene Churches in Peoria for two years and Abingdon for 10 years. During his life he had lived in the following communities, Petosky, Alma, Mich.; Kewanee, Rockford, Pekin, Abingdon, Dodge City, El Dorado, Kan.; Chicago Heights and at rural St. Augustine. \\ \\ He was a member of the Salvation Army Church. He also had belonged to several service clubs, loved to read, play his brass horns and guitar, fish, watch John Wayne movies and spend time with his family. He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart and put Him first in all he did. \\ \\ Celebration of Life Service was held Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at The Salvation Army Church, 510 N. Kellogg St., in Galesburg. Captains [[Rick Ray]] and [[Jim Brickson]] officiated. Cremation was accorded following the service. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel was in charge of arrangements. \\ \\ In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
