Arthur was born in Winterton, Newfoundland and spent his life in teaching, preaching and administration in The Salvation Army. He was the Territorial commander for Canada and the Bermuda Territory of The Salvation Army from 1982 to 1984. Beloved husband of the late (2009) Betty Pitcher (nee Evans). Loving father of [[David Pitcher|Major David]] ([[Donna Pitcher|Donna]]) of St. Catharines, [[Eleanor Pitcher Shepherd|Colonel Eleanor]] ([[Glen Shepherd|Glen]]) Shepherd of Pointe Claire, and Dr. Donald (Brigitte) of Normandy, France. 7 grandchildren Julie (David) Hann, Jeff (Laura) & Jeremy Pitcher, Elizabeth Shepherd (Johan Huldqvist) and John Shepherd, Heidi (Gregorie) de Vivis, Jonathan (Sandrine) Pitcher and 5 great grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by three sisters, [[Maude Pitcher Tillsley|Mrs. General Maude Tillsley]], [[Ethel Pitcher Slous|Lt. Col Ethel Slous]], and [[Eileen Pitcher Peat|Major Eileen Peat]] – predeceased by Myrtle Deering. Special thanks to the staff at the Meighen Manor for their excellent care of our dad. A service of celebration of his life is to be held on Wednesday, February 2nd at the Scarborough Corps of The Salvation Army - 2021 Lawrence Avenue E. at 11 a.m. with visitation on Tuesday at Jerretts Funeral Chapel on 6191 Yonge Street, North York 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. in lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Salvation Army North Toronto Corps or Christian Blind Mission.
