====Salvation Army of Indian River County Gets New Leaders====
A Fort Myers couple are the new leaders for the Salvation Army of Indian River County.

Lieutenants Jonathan "Jay" and Heather Needham from Fort Myers replace Majors Sam and Veronica VanDenberg, who retired from the Salvation Army after more than 40 years of service.
\\ \\
"We are looking forward to helping this community grow," said Jay Needham, 34, who will handle operations, while Heather Needham, 36, will handle ministry and support services. "We're a team; we feel we've been called as a married couple to be officers."
\\ \\
The couple have relocated to Indian River County and are getting settled in their new home. They met in Tampa, and their own parents were also officers for the Salvation Army. Jay and Heather are parents to Griffin, 5 and Harper, 3.

Jay Needham said he wants to make sure the Salvation Army can help the most people possible in Indian River County. He will focus his efforts on expanding the emergency assistance and food programs for people in the county.
\\ \\
"This is a super community and I can tell that already," said Jay Needham, "but our mission can only go forward if the community continues to supports us."
\\ \\
At the moment, the Salvation Army is in need of volunteers for its feeding program, which delivers meals to the homebound on Mondays and Friday. Drivers, cooks and packers are especially needed for the program, which is similar to Meals on Wheels.

Even though Christmas still is six months away, staff already is working on programs the Salvation Army will offer around the holidays. Volunteer bell ringers will be needed for the Red Kettle campaign and this year, the Salvation Army hopes to increase sponsorship opportunities for its famous red kettles.

"We certainly have a lot to do," said Jay Needham. "But we're here and we are looking forward to doing the most good for the most people in need."
