 +

 +
+Brigadier Trew, Major McMahon and other leaders will be in charge of the regular Salvation Army Sunday evening services.
 +
+Announcements of the Army campaign have been put up throughout the city and the actual financial drive will be inaugurated Monday. Captain Bamford has had need already to ask that the posters in the city, calling attention to the work of the Army, should not be torn down from the light standards in the main section of town. Put in place yesterday, some were already damaged today.
 +
 +**Expenses are $7,000**
+While the contriubtions to the annual Salvation Army appeal for funds average around the $3,000 mark, the expense of carrying on the various activities approximate about twice that sum. In the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, the income amounted to $7,315.80 whereas the expenditures totaled $7,349.18, creating a net loss of $33.38.
 +
+The total received in the financial campaign last year was $3,124.13. Other major receipts included $974.89 from collections in front of the local theatres, $1,302.43 from collections in the business district and from the Santa Claus visits to the homes at Christmas time. The Salvation Army members themselves through their own contributions, collections at meetings and youth activities, turned over $1,376.42. The sum of $273.69 came in from sundries.
 +
 +**Expense Items**
+The largest item in the expenses for the past year was $1,554.54 for transient and emergency relief. With the present governmental set-up for handling relief cases, there is a twilight zone between the time applications for relief are made and the grants are formally ordered. On such occasions the Salvation Army renders aid. The care of transients also has the effect of doing away with the solicitation by them for food or clothing at the local homes. A place of overnight shelter is maintained by the Salvation Army for transients.
 +
+The salaries of the local officers are listed at $1,395.45. National headquarters fix the salary, starting with a base pay of $19 a week and increased according to the size of the family. In Captain Bamford's case he is paid the sum of $23 per week.
 +
+The payment on the principle and on the interest of the mortgage during the past year amounted to $604.93. There is still owing on the building the sum of $4,575; the original purchase price was $8,500.
 +
 +**Statistical Report**
+The statistical report shows that 1,917 homeless and transient persons were helped during the past year, an increase of 1,078 over the previous year. The number of lodgings given was 1,022. 103 more than in the pas year. Families assisted numbered 1,547, compared to 1,185 the year before. No less than 5,797 garments were distributed and 682 pieces of furniture and miscellaneous household furnishings.
 +
+An appreciation of the invaluable work being done by the Salvation Army can be found in the various details of the county jail work, homeless and transient relief and in family and welfare activities. A particularly bright spot in the picture is seen in two items - 154 families given Christmas baskets and 500 children given Christmas toys, considerably more than was done in the previous year.
 +
 +**Spiritual Side**
+The spiritual side of the Salvation Army is in no sense neglected despite the demands made upon the time and funds of the local unit. This is a phase of the work that cannot be measured in dollars and cents and requires no recapitulation as a further spur to the generosity of this community in the annual appeal that starts Monday.
